How do you judge a horse?
March 26th, 2026 was a great day at Cloud County Community College, where White City and many other schools participated in horse judging.
Horse Judging consists of multiple classes covering overall appearance, attitude and compliance for the riders. The trails used for the judging were: Western Pleasure and Western Riding. Horses are rated on a four-point scale. For example, a horse with excellent physical appearance would receive a ‘1.’ In the “Greenhand” and “Senior” divisions, judges provide explanations for their scores. The former necessitates one explanation, the latter two. Placing and information are scored from 1 to 50. This involves criteria like taking off the hat and making eye contact. It is possible for an excellent judge to give a perfect 50 points.
The students that went were Kaycee Brown, Ashlee Erichsen, Elsa Barrett, and Fayth Ehrlich.
Kayce got 8th place in “Greenhand.” Ashlee Erichsen earned 9th place in the same category.
Elsa Barrett earned 11th place in the Senior Division and Fayth Ehrlich earned 22nd in the same division.
Congratulations to all horses and riders!
