On Wednesday, January 28th, the White City Spelling Bee was once again contested. The top 3 in the classes will be best of the 3rd through 7th grade spellers. They go through rounds to see who will be the winner to go on to the county spelling bee in February. Then if they win the county Spelling Bee they will then go on to state.

Winner of the 2026 White City Spelling Bee was Tobias Coleman for the second year in a row.

In second place was Dreyken Hadley. Coming in 3rd place was Scyla Massey. The Alternate winner was Kannen Elliott.

According to the Scripps National Spelling Bee website, the national Spelling Bee has been held since 1925. The first National Spelling Bee took place in Washington, D.C. Nine spellers competed, and 11-year-old Frank Neuhauser won by correctly spelling ‘gladiolus.’ Frank’s prizes included $500 in gold and a bicycle.

Congratulations to all the winners and competitors!
