At White City Schools we have an After School Program (ASP) where students can come when parents are at work or not able to pick up their children from school. Students have the opportunity to do all manner of activities until their parents arrive. The kids enjoy coming in after school to have fun with friends and do fun activities. They have a ninth grade student that works there named Toni Comp. Toni works in the program alongside her step-mother.
Students like to play outside. Toni says, “The activities they can do is play outside when it's nice they can also play on all the equipment.” Students also have the chance to play inside. Toni also says “That if they are inside they can play with the board games and legos as well as coloring.”
Toni tells us, “Since sports are in the gym, they don't really get to go in the gym, so they stay in the library”. Toni has worked there since last year in April and loves to work with the kids. Janice is the supervisor of the program, but she has a lot of helpers that also enjoy working with the kids.
The program runs after school from 3:10pm to 5:30pm. This program is not expensive. It’s a good alternative for those students who may not be home after school or otherwise available to pick up their students.
