High School students recently had a chance to explore future career options.  To get this chance, most of the High School students took a field trip to Hutchinson, Kansas.  It turned out to be a fun day of learning.

The Hutchinson Career Fair happened on October 30th.  The exhibits at the expo were from Hutchinson, Salina and other areas in Kansas.  Schools and colleges did their best to attract future students to their institutions.  They enticed students with fun and creative presentations.

There were a variety of exhibits.  One of the exhibits used a VR game for students to practice welding.  Another exhibit attracted students with a punching bag machine.  Still another exhibit allowed students to do an interactive activity with a visualization of smoke-impaired lungs.  Another booth was a PC building class.  One booth asked students to make WIFI cables.

One of the local police departments had a police training exhibit.  The exhibit was like a game, where the person had to identify a perpetrator and determine whether he represented a threat.

Most of the careers at Hutch were agriculture related.  These were grouped in one long row.   As one strolled the aisles, one might see a Kahoot game happening.  At a career fair like this, Kahoot is one way schools try to entice students.

One of the career opportunities had Nintendo games set up for the students to play.  This was related to a career in programming.  Games are a clever way of getting students interested in programming.

Education about the realities of careers was available.  Even some of the cool careers might end up being difficult.  More lucrative careers might require a four year degree.  On the other hand, a career in welding might only require two years of technical training.
